Start your tour of historical Bogota by visiting Bolivar Square, one of the city's most iconic sights. A statue of Simon Bolivar forms the central point of the square. Erected in 1846, it represents Bogota's first public monument and commemorates the military leader who helped liberate multiple nations from Spanish rule. Historical buildings surround the plaza on all sides, including the national capitol, the house of the supreme court, the mayor's office, and the Cathedral of Bogota. Often very lively, the square makes an excellent location for people-watching, and right next to it you can find a selection of cafes and bars. Many of Bogota's top sights are just a short walk from here. • Parliament and the Justice building (taken over by Pablo Escobar at one point) and presidential palace nearby. Worth a visit for sure. Nice to see changing of the hard as well. Lots of pigeons.

  • This is an incredible look into the heart of Bogota, Colombia, and is full of cultural history, government buildings, museums, and street vendors. The pigeons love to be fed and will pose for pictures if you have corn. There are plenty of places to purchase pigeon bait, human bait, and date bait. If you visit Bogota, this is a must-see on the list of places to go. Take a stroll through the history of Simon Bolivar y el Gran Colombia with the rich culture and history up and down these streets along the plaza.
  • This is a great city square of Bogota that actually resembles the city square in Lisbon quite a bit. The new Hall of Justice isn't open just yet, but already looks beautiful. The style actually compliments the cathedral next store while both buildings maintain their identity. With the nearby street art of La Candelaria nearby it's a no-brainer to check out!
