Start your tour of historical Bogota by visiting Bolivar Square, one of the city's most iconic sights. A statue of Simon Bolivar forms the central point of the square. Erected in 1846, it represents Bogota's first public monument and commemorates the military leader who helped liberate multiple nations from Spanish rule. Historical buildings surround the plaza on all sides, including the national capitol, the house of the supreme court, the mayor's office, and the Cathedral of Bogota. Often very lively, the square makes an excellent location for people-watching, and right next to it you can find a selection of cafes and bars. Many of Bogota's top sights are just a short walk from here. • An extraordinary instance of the message is the meaning and kill the messenger- a sizable space of historic importance surrounded by buildings of different signification. Lacks coquettish concern...

  • Plaza Bolivar makes for a great orientation point to explore La Candelaria. It's a bit run down, yes, but still splendid in its own tired colonial way. The cathedral is a stunner and the buildings...

  • The main historical square and old centre Really big and unique, and the surrounding buildings tell their own tale of architecture and colonisation. Well worth a walk, but not much to do abound here. An idea would be to visit here on Sunday, to experience the atmosphere and street food, and then walk down the main street towards the flee market. For almost 2 km of closed pedestrian road you will experience all the fun and vigour or Colombia in a safe and busy way
  • This is an incredible look into the heart of Bogota, Colombia, and is full of cultural history, government buildings, museums, and street vendors. The pigeons love to be fed and will pose for pictures if you have corn. There are plenty of places to purchase pigeon bait, human bait, and date bait. If you visit Bogota, this is a must-see on the list of places to go. Take a stroll through the history of Simon Bolivar y el Gran Colombia with the rich culture and history up and down these streets along the plaza.
