Create an itinerary including Iglesia de San Francisco
Take a tour of the oldest preserved church in the city when you visit Iglesia de San Francisco. Originally built in the latter half of the 16th century, the cathedral was dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi. Take time to admire the stunning architecture from the outside. Then move to the interior, where you'll find gold embellishments decorating the altar and its backdrop--a grand view from the pews. Statues of religious figures line the bottom of an elaborately designed ceiling within the worship room. Ask at the attraction for service times if you are interested. Plan your visit to Iglesia de San Francisco and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Bogota trip app.

  • I went in but impressed with the outer character of the structure. Apparently the oldest such edifice in Bogota. The leaf cstering for the patronage of San Francisco de Asís in the city of Bogotá...

  • It's mind-blowing to think that this place was build in the 1500s!! The grandiosity of the altar, which is gold-plated, and pretty much all the interior except for the pews is truly staggering. Taking pictures is not allowed, so you'll have to be discreet if you want to snap any. Most importantly, remember it's still a church, not a museum, so be mindful of the people praying inside.
  • Really enjoyed the liturgy, beautiful cathedral. Very welcoming parishioners. Great daily mass at 9am
