Trip Planner: South America / Colombia / Bolivar Department / Cartagena District / Cartagena / Museo del Oro Zenu
As far as gold museums in Colombia go, Museo del Oro Zenu would probably get the silver medal, but it still makes for an extremely worthwhile visit. Often labeled as a smaller version of Bogota's Museo del Oro, the museum places a strong emphasis on Colombia's indigenous Zenu culture and their use of gold in decorations and religious artifacts. The free museum also displays household items used by the Zenu people and explains how they utilized irrigation and flood-management systems to their advantage. Spend an hour wandering through the museum in air-conditioned bliss. PutMuseo del Oro Zenu into our Cartagena sightseeing planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

Museo del Oro Zenu reviews
Small museum but lots of displays. Main interest here was air con, free and clean bathroom. Lots of thick walls ,etc. Must be real gold

Beware as you enter the temporary exhibition in the National Bank. We were followed in by someone pretending to be the museum curator, cornered, talked at for ages and ages in broken English (it’s a tiny space so couldn’t escape) and then asked for money. Like many, many other experiences in Colombia, it’s a scam. A tiring, annoying, scam. Worst of all, it was right under the nose of the actual museum staff and security and they were indifferent, bordering on complicit. That said, the scammer told us one or two things that weren’t already on the walls so maybe the hustle was worth it to know about Incan bat men and fertility rites?! Cool gold stuff though. Deffo worth a trip in, just tell the hustlers to hold off!
Beautiful but very small history & jewelry of gold. Definitely take a step inside on your walk .
