Create an itinerary including Plaza Botero
In the heart of the city's old town, Plaza Botero pays tribute to the famed works of Colombian sculptor Fernando Botero. Nestled between the palace of culture and the local museum, the verdant square serves as a hub of city activity. Wander among the numerous bronze statues by Botero and you'll get a solid understanding of the artist's famed style: his trademark sculptures feature chubby figures, both human and animal, with exaggerated, balloon-like proportions. Try striking a pose of your own in front of one of the 23 popular works on display here, or grab an ice cream and park bench to watch the crowds go by. Put Plaza Botero and other Medellin attractions into our Medellin trip planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • The artwork was interesting but it's probably not a real safer area of Medellin. Lots of people around but you have to be very careful.

  • Plaza Botero is pretty much in the centre of Medellin. Many people have comment on it ‘seedy' nature, but for us we saw it as a melting pot of vibrant life, that we found brilliant just to walk...

  • Statues are very awesome. Have some vendors nearby selling all kinds of things in the park, it does get pretty packed. It isn’t in the best area, I definitely wouldn’t go around nighttime.
  • Great plaza with train access, and lots of cool architecture and sculptures. If you are a tourist, do not explore too far from the plaza. It seems to be in a really sketchy location.
