Despite its small size, The Little Mermaid (Den Lille Havfrue) serves as one of the city's major symbols. Based on the well-known fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, this unimposing bronze mermaid is the work of sculptor Edvard Eriksen. Commissioned by Danish beer baron Carl Jacobsen in 1909, the artist modeled the mermaid's face after ballerina Ellen Price and the body after his wife's. The statue miraculously survived the destructive forces of World War II undamaged, becoming a kind of city mascot over the years. • Must have a great location. The real story is almost disturbing compared to the cartoon

  • An iconic and beautiful statue based on a fairy tale by one of the most prolific and talented fairy tale writers of all Time! Hans Christian Andersen is surprisingly enough, a very underrated writer. His style and language speaks to the heart and it is a pleasure to read. I was surprised by how sad the true story of the Little Mermaid was when I read the original work. Truly incredible. I give it 5 stars for being so significant, though I wish that there weren't so many people there being loud.
  • First I thought that place is over crowded, but when I heard a story about little mermaid then understood why these place is over crowded. Surrounding place is also nice. In summer, You can enjoy the place more with ice cream for sure. No ticket is required for this. Anyone can come and take pictures with little mermaid..
