#248 of 2,919 in Things to do in Paris
France gave the United States the famous Statue de la Liberte in 1886. It's a symbol of the friendship between the two nations that developed during the American Revolution. Its sculptor, Auguste Bartholdi, made smaller, exact replicas of the statue. The oldest one, used as a model for the American monument, sits in Jardin du Luxembourg. The artist offered it to the Luxembourg museum in 1900, and the museum placed it in the park in 1906. Come here to study the statue without the aid of a helicopter or binoculars. • My experience was fine. Dropped by here early morning. A quick stop to take a photo. LOL. Also there's an exercise area just nearby. A nice place to jog around.
  • I’ve been here before in spring and autumn but during the summer is definitely the busy season. There’s a community workout area under the bridge right before you get to the statue but no one was acting oddly I felt perfectly safe there with my kids.
