Guyana National Library allows you to enrich your knowledge with an abundance of books, historical documents, manuscripts, and phonograph recordings. Founded in 1909, this institution serves as a public lending library and encourages book lovers to nurture their various interests. Initially, a large iron grille stood between readers and the books. Written requests had to be passed to the librarian through a small window. Today, you can access the library's written material easily and quickly. Very nice library with lots of great history. Would be excellent if it received more funding to digitize the artifacts. A lot of Guyana’s history will be lost as the paperworks deteriorate.

A cool quiet place in a historic building. I spent time upstairs in looking at their newspaper collection. Bring your mask. Lockers available downstairs for your bag.
