Consecrated in 393 CE, Basilica di San Lorenzo is among a handful of churches that claim to be the oldest in Florence. The church in its current form, however, was not begun until the 1400s. Despite being built over many years, and diverging from the original plan in certain areas, it remains a great example of the early Renaissance style. The pulpits are late works of Donatello, and the church houses several Renaissance paintings, including Brunelleschi's Old Sacristy. If you want to tour the attached tombs of the Medici family, designed by Michelangelo, check the schedule for opening times. • Very impressive building built for the Medici. Unfortunately, we did not go in to see it. The surrounding square is very lively.

  • Paid 7 eur for the entrance. It was well worth it. A beautiful church with lots of history and amazing paintings. There is also a display of their collection in the basement.
  • It has a great story. We started the late night tour as soon as we got the city and the sightseeing was totally worth it.
