Bukit Tabur is a ridge located in Hulu Gombak Forest Reserve, Selangor, Malaysia. It is also known locally as Bukit Hangus, Dragon's Back and Crystal Hill. The quartz ridge is very prominent as it is part of Klang Gates Quartz Ridge and can be seen from the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2. Hikers enter the trail near Kampung Klang Gates, 50 metres from the gates of the Klang Gates Dam, at the back of Taman Melawati for a 3-4 hour climb. The peak offers view of the dam and panoramic views of Kuala Lumpur from the north. It is ILLEGAL and deemed trespassing to hike up Bukit Tabur without permits from The Selangor Forestry Departmen. The hiking trail to Bukit Tabur can be found at 3°14′1″N 101°44′55″E.
Bukit Tabur is divided into the eastern and western section by the dam, with four discrete trails: Bukit Tabur West, Bukit Tabur East, Bukit Tabur Far East and Bukit Tabur Extreme.
There has been a series of accidents on the trail including several fatal mishaps. As a result the trail has been closed at times by the Selangor Forestry Department.

Tabur West : Great hike, a bit of a scramble at times, and a really rewarding sunrise. There are ropes and handles planted in the rocks which help massively. If you go all the way up and continue after the busy sunrise people gathering, there are 2-3 steep bits with no ropes or handles so you just need to be a but careful. The whole Tabur West loop can easily be done in less than 2.5 hours without too many stops.
Amazing trek just outside KL. Not for the faint-hearted. They say the West trek is the easiest. It was quite challenging for us. You have to climb through 6 ridges to reach the highest one. Ropes are along the way so it is doable just make sure you get a good grip before every step. My girlfriend and I had turn back just before the last ridge since we got a little concerned about the weather and got a bit stressed. Still a 5 Star experience even if we did not reach the top summit. You have to respect the mountains and your limits . We started about 9am and on the way back when we reached the start of our trek there were people by the entrance to ensure nobody goes inside. So if you decide to do it make sure you start early and you are pretty confident climbing with ropes. Bring gloves and plenty of water. We consumed 3 liters in 4 hours and at the end it was not enough. If you do the whole trek I assume about 5-6 hours in total. Have fun and be safe
