  • This beach is so beautiful. Turquoise waters, white sandy beaches and cotton candy skies at sunset. There was a great mix of tourists and locals at the beach. I'd be at this beach everyday to watch...

  • Chac-mool, Cancún, Q.R., Mexico what a great fine- these public beaches are actually beaches that the hotels with beach access do not own but utilize like everyone else. There are designated areas...

  • Really beautiful place, but it smells “fishy”. There is a lot of mouvement there and loud music
  • While in Cancun we prefered going to Playa chac-mool over the other beaches available. Actually we went every chance we had. We felt safe and secure there. It is a very clean beach. Both the water and the sand are very clean. The sand is very fine and almost powdery. There were small areas where the sargasso was floating about. However the ocean current and waves moved it out of the way fairly quickly. There was some sargasso at the water's edge. But after the water's edge, the sand was very clean. The waves were from 6" to 2' tall and the water color was amazing. The public restrooms at the entrance point are decently clean for both the men's and women's side. They also have a family restroom available. And showers are available to rinse off. The trash collection points are repeatedly emptied out. With both empty aluminum cans and plastics separated for recycling. All the beaches in Mexico prohibit glass containers of any kind. So only aluminum and plastic containers are allowed. There are people present who strictly enforce that rule, so beware. A life guard was present everyday up to 5 pm. The beach is a sea turtle nesting site which had an area where turtle eggs were incubating in the sand. It was fenced off and everyone respected the boundary. Public transportation is available from Cancun Centro, through the Hotel Zone and back. However parking is dificult if you have your own vehicle. The public parking areas are small and fill up quickly. It's best to get to this beach early if you want to park for free. And they close at 4 pm so you must remove your car or risk having it chained in with padlock overnight....for free. There is also parking under Chac-Mool mall which is right by the beach entrance point. There is a small parking fee. But If you are carrying coolers and a lot of gear, it is best to drop that off with your team, then go park your vehicle after. There is also some street parking available but these are far and few and could get your vehicle towed. An OXXO is located at the beach entrance point which is very convinient. Plastic beach tables, chairs and umbrellas are available for a fee. And are only set out when paid for. Not left out all day covering every available space on the beach like it's done on playa Norte in Isla Mujeres. Which forces everyone to rent the chairs if they want to spend time on that beach. On weekdays the beach was fairly quiet. There was some music but it was kept mostly at low volume. On those days you can clearly hear the ocean and enjoy the other sounds of nature. The ocean's smell was pleasant and not overwhelming. This is a family beach where couples come to spend time together. Kids play in the sand and in the water. It's where families and friends come to enjoy their time. Peace and quiet for the most part is respected. On the weekend the ambiance of this beach is different. It is packed and there are many music sources that are kept at high volumn. There is also a lot of drinking. It becomes a party beach and there is a lot of "people watching" going on. Very similar to the beaches close to Coco bongo and Señor frogs. Over-all we all enjoyed this beach and highly recomend it any day of the week.
