Trip Planner: South Pacific / New Zealand / North Island / Auckland Region / Auckland / Auckland Museum
Learn about New Zealand's rich history at Auckland Museum, serving as both a major cultural institution and a war memorial. Designed in the 1920s as a commanding neoclassical temple, this structure features an impressive copper dome, added in 2007. The ground floor, dedicated to the Auckland area's natural and military history, houses impressive displays of Maori artifacts, including a war canoe and a carved meeting house (which you can enter only after removing your shoes). The upper levels feature more military exhibits and a display about the region's volcanic fields, including a fascinating simulation of an eruption. For the sake of convenience, take a guided highlights tour, included in your admission ticket. Plan a Auckland trip in moments using our itinerary builder.

I love museums. Auckland War Memorial Museum is one of the best out there. Definitely worth the visit. It is free for residents. So better bring your proof of address if you have a strong feeling that you will get asked for it. Plenty of history stored in this museum. Even the hill where it is constructed has meaning. So it is pretty awesome. Been there a couple of times. If I am not mistaken, they have events too every week or every month. That is another to look out for. Awesome awesome awesome.
Great place full of history, culture and fun for the kids as well as educational! They have a great food lounge for big and small groups, toilets are clean and accessible! Easy access for wheelchairs and pushchairs! Cafe in the atrium also! Can start bus tours from here just outside and the views of the harbour are stunning!
