Explore the rocky walls of Avaiki Cave and swim in its natural pool. Sea water fills the karst cave's basin; according to a legend, the king of Niue was the only one allowed to bathe in it. Today visitors can take a dip in its cold but refreshing water, mingling with the small colorful fish. The uneven amount of sunlight in the cave creates different shades of blue and green. You might want to keep your shoes on as you swim due to the rocky floor. Avaiki cave is one of those places that seems like it could only ever exist in a dream. The water is an impossible shade of turquoise and the walls of the cave shimmer with a jewel-like purple hue... more »
An amazing cave with lots to see!! At the end of it is a gorgeous rock pool which you can swim in at low tide - we came during high tide so we missed out! Do wear proper footwear though as the rocks are slippery when wet
One of the best spots in Niue.. the caves are mesmerising. A short walk through the cave and rocks will lead to the waters - the water is crystal clear ! Need sturdy shoes to walk through the rocks. During a low tide, we can walk through the waters to reach a spot that is not seen from outside - its almost a private pool made from rock formation. Absolutely amazing and out of the world !!
