Basilica del Santo Nino, Cebu City

Admire the oldest Christian image in the Philippines, and pay tribute to a revered patron saint of Cebu City at Basilica del Santo Nino, the oldest Roman Catholic church in the country. Founded in 1565 and originally built from wood, the church houses a 30 cm (12 in) tall statue of Jesus as a child, adorned in fantastic luxurious robes and presented to a local queen by Magellan as a baptismal gift. A cradle of Christianity in the East recognized by the Pope in 1965, the church, ruined three times in fires, has been restored, and also survived a recent earthquake. Thousands of visitors come here to see the wooden figure of baby Jesus made by Flemish artists. • Managed to take only two as I feel it is inappropriate to take photos at the church when it is a place for worship. Overall it was a great visit as usual.  more »

  • This is the Most Amazing and Historical Sacred Place in Cebu City, Philippines! Many different kinds of people from different places, Tourist used to visit, pray, attend Mass and feels so good for they feel the presence of Our Lord here and prayers are always granted for God is so good all the time for God is Love! All for sure you experience here are real for there is nothing impossible by God! Prayers are the most powerful weapons on Earth. Thank you Lord!
  • We visited the place just in time for the English mass. The mass is being held on the open area of the Basilica. There is a very long queue for the Sto Niño, so it’s better to go there early. We queued at around 7:30 and the line had started to grow. The souvenir shop has a lot of religious items for sale, so you might want to buy here and line up after the mass for the blessing, I haven’t noticed the machine for the credit cards so I assume the shop is cash basis only. Make sure to be mindful of the people praying and the on-going mass.
