Fort San Pedro, Cebu City

3.6
Historic Site · Tourist Spot
A triangular stone block fortress with an impressive wooden gate, Fort San Pedro guards the entrance to Cebu with two of its sides facing the sea. Dating from the mid-16th century (with the present-day structure built in 1738), the fort remains the oldest and smallest stronghold in the Philippines. Explore the Virgin's Well and cannons on display in the palm-dotted courtyard, and climb up the three stone watchtowers overlooking the sea and the streets. A museum within the walls exhibits old photographs and sketches of the fort, and documents show its shape in the past and the founding of Cebu. • Located in the downtown area of Cebu is this historical fort. I found it quite an interesting piece of history and enjoyed looking around it. There's been good restoration work on it. It costs 30 pesos entry fee. Not much at all. You won't need more than an hour to look around.
  • Lots of history to appreciate! The fort is not that big though, an hour tour would suffice. They have a program where OJT (on the job training) students from universities majoring in Tourism related courses become your tour guide which I thought was a win-win...enjoy!
