Centro Historico de Cascais represents the old center of a historic coastal city that was once a small fishing village. While the foundation of Cascais dates to the 12th century, it did not become a desirable resort location until the 19th or 20th centuries, when royalty began to frequent the village. Now it is a popular site for beach-goers and tourists who are interested in Portuguese history. Just a train ride away from Lisbon, this site features tiny, shop-lined side streets; cobblestone roads; several parks; and local bars and restaurants. While you're here, visit the area's art and sea museum, as well as the ruins of the Castle of Cascais.
