Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle), Bran

#1 of 221 in Museums in Romania
Originally built in the 14th century, Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle) draws visitors because of its association with the bloodthirsty 15th-century Romanian ruler, Vlad the Impaler. The castle served as a fortress guarding the mountain pass and was advertised as the home of the ruler--also known as Dracul (the devil), who inspired the legend of Dracula. Perched on a rock above the river, the site offers panoramic views of the mountains. Today, its interiors feature art and furniture that belonged to the last Romanian Queen, Marie. Different rooms house some historical writings and the royal family tree. Check out an open-air museum in the park at the bottom of the hill with traditional Romanian peasant cottages and barns. • Our second stop of our tour was Bran Castle, better known as Castle Dracula. Visiting this national landmark was higher up on our bucket list. This fortress is nicely tucked away in the Carpathian...  more »
  • What an amazing day out! The castle is absolutely beautiful with lots of useful information throughout. Entry is very reasonably priced (£20 for three of us) and there's a great range of Dracula-based gifts on sale. One of the best castles I've been to. A nice coffee shop and cafe on site with adorable resident cats. If you love the book Dracula, this is such an interesting place to visit!
  • Love it, best place to visit! Lots of history displayed about everything about the castle and a nice and interesting souvenir shop with mugs, writing instruments, decorative stuff and cartography stuff inspired from old maps and documents. I'd rate 8 stars out of five if i could. Something about that slope must be done because there are lots of accident risks during winter.
