This enclave of colonial buildings houses 12 international galleries showcasing contemporary art. The history of Gillman Barracks is tied to the island’s colonial past. It was built in 1936 for the British 1st Battalion and was named after General Sir Webb Gillman. During WWII, it was one of the final battle sites before Singapore fell into the hands of the Japanese troops. After the country’s independence in 1965, the site became prime training ground for Singapore national servicemen. Only in 2012 was the area transformed into an enclave of contemporary art. Visitors will find 12 international galleries such as Sundaram Tagore Gallery and ARNDT alongside home grown outfits.Make your Singapore itinerary with Inspirock to find out what to see and where to go.

Great place to visit on a weekend. Strolls through the various art installations and exhibitions spread across multiple location in a former military barracks. Not crowded at all, even on a weekend.
Awesome place to visit! Great events during Art Week. So much to explore. Very happening.
