A peninsula is a land bordered by water on three sides but remains connected to the mainland. Known as Little Burma, Peninsula Plaza is one place that connects the Burmese community in Singapore to their hometown. Designed by the Alfred Wong Partnership and built in 1980, Peninsula Plaza is an office building and a one-stop service centre for all things Burmese.

Built in 1980, Peninsula Plaza is a commercial property with a primary use for retail, rental, sale, and other commercial purposes. It is a skyscraper of about 381 feet tall and 30 floors above the ground.Peninsula Plaza is also referred as Singapore’s Little Burma. No less than 200,000 Burmese are living and working in Singapore and Peninsula Plaza becomes a center for them to gather and get their essentials.

The interior of the building is beautifully decorated with curving script. Besides travel agencies, visa agencies, money changers, and souvenir shops, the traditional ‘longyi’ and Burmese language library are a few of what gives you the feel of Burma without going to Burma physically. The Plaza’s basement is filled with eateries that specializes in Burmese delicacies like soups, curries, stir-fries, noodle dishes, and several other Burmese cuisines.

Surrounding the plaza are notable eateries, shopping malls, and amenities like Funan DigitaLife Mall, Penisula Shopping Centre, Excelsior Shopping Centre, Raffles City Shopping Centre, The Adelphi, Citylink Mall, Funan DigitaLife Mall, and Excelsior Hotel Food Court. Furthermore, Jason’s Market Place, Cold Storage, and Sheng Siong are very close to Peninsula Plaza.

Reputable schools can also be found less than two kilometers away like the St. Margaret's Primary School, Insworld Institute and Stamford Primary School.

Getting to Peninsula Plaza is not an issue as there many MRT Stations that you are nearby. Nearest are: City Hall (NS25/EW13), Esplanade (CC3).

  • One of historical market in Singapore though Peninsula lost her previous glamours but still this is famous to the Burmese people’s, locals and tourists. You will find Burmese products in almost every shops. Sometimes I visit there to buy betel leaves for my Uncle. Few good currency exchange there who are really famous and give better rates in town.
  • Most horric mall I ever came across. I could not believe Singapore has a mall in this condition. Even before you step in, you are greeted with the pungent odour of toilet, from 1st floor to the 4th. Luckily, SCCCI on 5 lvl is spared.
