St Andrew's Cathedral, Singapore

4.1
Tall, elegant spires and a long, grand nave lined with white arches await you at St Andrew's Cathedral. This Neo-Gothic, Anglican cathedral is the country's largest, originally built in 1836. The cathedral was twice rebuilt in its history, the second time due to irreparable damage after being twice hit by lightning. The cathedral is home to three large, stained-glass installations that stand out against the stark overall whiteness. Free, guided tours are offered when services are not in session; during these tours volunteers delve into the cathedral's rich history and intricacies. • Beautiful church in the center of Singapore! The church itself is really well maintained and the exterior is really clean too! The place is generally very quiet and it is really peaceful to just sit down outside the church and take a rest!
  • If you want to find a church to pray, I recommend this church. Centrally located. Near City Hall MRT station.

Singapore’s largest cathedral showcases early English Gothic influences. It is located in the bustling Civic District, and its design pays tribute to key historial figures of Singapore. Designed by Colonel Ronald MacPherson, St Andrew’s Cathedral is Singapore’s largest cathedral and the most established Anglican place of worship. Located in the bustling Civic District, its design pays fitting tribute to key historical figures. Stained glass windows on the apse honour Singapore’s founder, Sir Stamford Raffles and other British officials. In 1942 during World War II, there were frequent Japanese air raids and the cathedral was used as an emergency hospital. It was gazetted as a national monument in 1973.
