Newlands Forest is an unbelievably and somewhat magical place, rarely found on a mountain in a city. There are walks for all ages and every level of fitness. Please take water, something warm, and protect yourself from the sun. Never walk alone, even if you have dogs with you. It is advisable to walk in groups of no less than 3. From the Newlands Forest entrance some of the more interesting walks are up either Newlands Ravine or Nursery Ravine. Both will take you to the saddle where a break with coffee and a sandwich, while enjoying the captivating over the peninsula. Swimming is not allowed in the dams.
Moderately challenging terrain with refreshing forest air and a stream guiding your movement through the forest. No clear signage so remember your route while hiking or it’s easy to get lost on the way down. Wear hiking shoes and bring a light jacket during the cooler months. We enjoyed meeting families with children and energetic pets along the way. A bit of a hidden gem recommended as a break from the hustle and bustle of the city !
