Casa Del Rey Moro, Ronda

3.5
#2 of 21 in Historic Sites in Ronda
Historic Site · Architectural Building
Although Casa Del Rey Moro claims to have once been the home of a Moorish king, in reality the house wasn't built until the 18th century, and the "Moorish" garden wasn't installed until 1912. However, the water mine (steps leading to a well) is a relic dating back to the Moorish period. The entry to the well is in the gardens. The steps get slippery and narrow in places, so use caution when descending into the rooms below. When in the well, or the "Room of Secrets," stand against one wall and ask a fellow guest to stand against the opposite wall, then ask another to stand in the center of the room. Whisper a secret message while you are standing against the wall, then listen to the response from the person opposite you. You'll hear each other, but the guest in the center of the room won't hear a thing. Make Casa Del Rey Moro part of your personalized Ronda itinerary using our Ronda trip maker tool.

  • If you're in Ronda this is a must. We walked the small garden, enjoyed the view of the new bridge and mountains, and walked down and up the mine to the canyon floor. A really lovely bit of exercise....  more »
  • It is absolutely a must while you visit Ronda. Physically challenging yes, but unforgettable experience.  more »

  • Because the house itself is closed due to renovations at the moment, you can only see the beautiful gardens. And of course the famous La Mina, the 330 steps partially inside the mountain to the river down deep, to always ensure a water supply even if beleaguered. This is quite a sturdy walk in very damp circumstances, be wary! For these two items the entrance fee of 6 euros is a bit steep.
  • One of the most interesting attractions of Ronda! The mine is really an adventure with a special view as reward for the journey through the mine. The garden is nice and the terras also offers you a great view over the canyon.
