Mount Liamuiga, Sandy Point Town

Challenging hikes with unparalleled scenic beauty, Mount Liamuiga is not for the faint hearted. A stratovolcano with an elevation of 1,156 m (3,792 ft), the highest point in St Kitts, it was formally named "Mount Misery", an indication of the hiking difficulty levels here. A diverse landscape, many trails begin at the old mango forest woodlands, then on into buzzing dense rainforests. If you make it to the top, you'll experience a mesmerising trail through Cloud Forest, then a walk to the edge of a 1 km wide (0.6 mi) volcano crater, a breath-taking chasm with spectacular views. Numerous tour guides operate here. Be sure to wear proper hiking footwear, and if possible, hiking poles. As with all strenuous hikes, bring plenty of water.
