Part private collection, part public exhibition, Baan Dam Museum belonged to veteran local artist Thawan Duchanee (now deceased). Examine arrangements of Duchanee's artworks, displayed in a vast feast hall, and admire the many finely sculpted wooden buildings on the property, which are works of art unto themselves. Black is both a physical description of the buildings' predominant color scheme, and a symbolic description of the macabre art, which is heavy on animal skulls, skins, sculptures of demons, and racks of antique guns. Baan Dam Museum Reviews
Dit vonden wij het mooiste van onze dagtour. Wat ik me wel afvroeg is hoeveel dieren hiervoor gedood zijn. Al met al toch indrukwekkend en had wat authentisches. more »This we found the most beautiful of our day tour. What I am wondering is how many animals are killed for this. All in all, impressive and had some authentisches.
When I go to a museum, you would expect to see something worthwhile. Maybe some paintings or sculptures. And to pay 90 thb to enter the museum, I would want more. Unfortunately, this was not the case.... more »
This place was incredibly cool. I really really enjoyed it. 80 baht is perfectly reasonable entry fee in my opinion. Several of the buildings were locked closed so I'm not sure why that was, but regardless I had a great time checking out everything available on display. If you like odd design and incredible detailed intricate woodwork you'll enjoy this museum.
Located in a nice, rural area outside of Chiang Rai it is a really interesting place to visit. In the afternoon it is crowded, but you can still enjoy the art. Even though there are quite a lot of animal skins and skeletons, it is more the carving of wood which stands out. When you drive by bus from the city bus station, you get a really nice experience of walking through the small village and arriving at this dark attraction. Would recommend, but come early to arrive before everyone else does!
