Paramaribo

— 13 nights

Wooden City

With the chance to visit a World Heritage-listed inner city, tours of Paramaribo remain among the most culturally enriching things tourists can do in Suriname.
Step out of the city life by going to Peperpot Nature Park and Voltzberg Dome. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Paramaribo: Fort Nieuw Amsterdam (in Nieuw Amsterdam) and Lelydorp (Pikin Sranan & Neotropical Butterfly Park). Next up on the itinerary: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Saint Peter and Paul Basilica, take in the spiritual surroundings of Suriname City Mosque, admire all the interesting features of Neveh Shalom Jewish Synagogue, and admire nature's wide array of creatures at Paramaribo Zoo.

To see maps, more things to do, where to stay, and other tourist information, refer to the Paramaribo trip maker tool.

If you are flying in from Saudi Arabia, the closest major aiport is Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport. Expect a daytime high around 35°C in February, and nighttime lows around 28°C. You'll set off for home on the 27th (Sun).

The smallest country in South America, Suriname features thick jungles, rushing rivers, and lively, culturally diverse places to visit. Independent since 1975, Suriname retained the Dutch language and influences, as well as the Caribbean and the culture of its indigenous tribes. A third of the country's landscape is made up of natural reserves, providing tourists the opportunity to explore lush tropical rainforests, pristine beaches, scenic rivers and waterfalls, as well as a staggering variety of animals and birds. On a trip to Suriname you shouldn't pass up a visit to its capital and only city, World Heritage-listed Paramaribo, noted for its colonial-era architecture.
