Cartagena — 3 nights

The site of the continent's first Spanish colony, Cartagena retains much of its colonial flavor thanks to a World Heritage-listed old town, encircled by old walls and protected by imposing fortresses.
When in Cartagena, make a side trip to see Playa Blanca in Isla Baru, approximately Isla Baru away. There's lots more to do: step into the grandiose world of Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, examine the collection at Choco Museo, pause for some photo ops at Monumento a los Zapatos Viejos, and steep yourself in history at Walled City of Cartagena.
