Paramaribo

— 6 nights

Wooden City

With the chance to visit a World Heritage-listed inner city, tours of Paramaribo remain among the most culturally enriching things tourists can do in Suriname.
Venture out of the city with trips to Fort Nieuw Amsterdam (in Nieuw Amsterdam), Neotropical Butterfly Park (in Lelydorp) and Peperpot Nature Park (in Meerzorg). There's much more to do: pause for some serene contemplation at Saint Peter and Paul Basilica, explore the activities along Commewijne River, explore and take pictures at Waterkant (Riverside Boulevard), and take in the spiritual surroundings of Suriname City Mosque.

For where to stay, other places to visit, ratings, and more tourist information, use the Paramaribo trip itinerary maker tool.

If you are flying in from Saudi Arabia, the closest major aiport is Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport. In February, daytime highs in Paramaribo are 35°C, while nighttime lows are 28°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 21st (Mon) so you can travel back home.

The smallest country in South America, Suriname features thick jungles, rushing rivers, and lively, culturally diverse places to visit. Independent since 1975, Suriname retained the Dutch language and influences, as well as the Caribbean and the culture of its indigenous tribes. A third of the country's landscape is made up of natural reserves, providing tourists the opportunity to explore lush tropical rainforests, pristine beaches, scenic rivers and waterfalls, as well as a staggering variety of animals and birds. On a trip to Suriname you shouldn't pass up a visit to its capital and only city, World Heritage-listed Paramaribo, noted for its colonial-era architecture.
