At Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, see the world's oldest known shipwreck and its treasury holding wooden logs, gems, and hippopotamus ivory. Situated inside the rooms and towers of St. Peter's Castle, the museum showcases collections of ancient artifacts retrieved from local shipwrecks, such as amphorae, coins, and Canaanite gold jewelry. Look for a solid gold scarab that belonged to the Egyptian queen Nefertiti. The battalions provide great views of the surrounding area. Many of the exhibits can be touched. There are no tour guides here, but panels, maps, models, dioramas, and videos provide necessary information. • The museum is scattered throughout the castle grounds. We spent about three hours looking around, great value at around £6.50 for entry. We opted not to have the audio guide, but this was not...

  • Museum is definitely worth a visit. You can easily spend 2-3 hours in here alone, not including the surrounding castle. There is a lot of interesting information on the boards and history of the museum/underwater archaeology generally.
  • We were pleasantly surprised by the historic diversity and animals, that stroll around in the castle. Besides the lovely cats, there are turtles and peacocks. We expected something different of underwater archaeology, but the diversity of the museum makes up for this.
