Step into the ancient dwellings and sanctuaries of Goreme Open-Air Museum, a World Heritage Site carved into Cappadocia stone and featuring historic Byzantine wall paintings. This outdoor museum consists of the remains of rock-cut churches, most of which date from the 10th, 11th, and 12th centuries. The site also has remnants of underground towns from the 4th century. Go on a walking tour of the valley's intriguing landscape to discover this stunning natural and man-made complex. Plaques along the way give you adequate information for exploring the area on your own. Don't forget to wear sensible shoes. A visit to Goreme Open-Air Museum represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Goreme travel planner to plot your vacation.

This UNESCO world heritage site is a must see. Go early, as it gets very crowded when the tour buses arrive. Since they do not allow photos in many of the nicer churches/rooms, I was lucky to have a guide with a great book published several years ago full of pictures. I was able to take pictures of the pictures.

It's a very big area so if you want to enjoy everything then perhaps getting the 3 day pass, if you have the time, will be the best option. I was here for approx 2 hours on a super hot day. It was enjoyable regardless because the caves were cooler. Great for taking pictures with a killer view of Goreme.
