While not much to look at, Galata Koprusu represents a tiny microcosm of life in the city, linking Beyoglu and Eminonu districts. The current bridge was built in 1992, replacing several earlier versions which were no longer feasible. Both Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were at times enlisted to design the bridge to cross the Golden Horn. Da Vinci's design was not accepted by the Sultan, while Michelangelo rejected the invitation to work on the project. Experience the sights of mosques and the Galata Tower on the horizon as you walk the length of the bridge. Most days you'll find dozens of men casting their fishing lines into the water below and street vendors peddling Turkish snacks, souvenirs, and fishing bait. Below the bridge, discover restaurants and cafes serving up Turkish food and drinks. Make Galata Koprusu a centerpiece of your Istanbul vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Istanbul trip itinerary planner.

  • Not the cleanest bridge but my god the atmosphere! You have to go. See the fisherman, enjoy the views and walk. Stunning and always busy especially in the evening. Walk the bridge up and down...
