View calligraphic art, religious and state documents, and paintings of the Ottoman era at Sakip Sabanci Museum, housed in the former family home of the wealthy Sabanci family. Collections include 18th- and 19th-century Chinese porcelain, vases, and decorated plates, in addition to 19th-century French and German porcelain. Get an educational view of Ottoman calligraphic art over 500 years with nearly 400 pieces of calligraphy, including manuscripts, Korans and prayer books, calligraphic panels, imperial documents and seals, and poetry books. The over 320 paintings of the Ottoman and Republican era include works by Ottoman and Turkish artists like Ibrahim Calli. Aside from these permanent exhibitions, the museum hosts cultural events and temporary exhibits of foreign artists, such as Pablo Picasso, Rodin, and Miro. The museum is accessible via car or taxi and has limited opening hours when hosting cultural events, so call ahead or check the website to confirm opening hours.     The museum's website lists free entry on Wednesdays. But show up at the museum and they'll tell you this is out of date info and you need to pay entry. No explanation, no apology. Obviously I wasn't.....  more »

    Best museum I went to in Istanbul. Very small but high-quality collection. The cafe is nice as well.

    Compact museum but always full of very interesting galleries. Thanks to generous donation of Sabanci family, the museum’s location is amazing and has a breathtaking bosphrous view. Finally, the museum is also a home for a modern top-notch restaurant called MSA
