Part of the ancient city of Hierapolis, Anatolia Cemetery features many different types of graves from the Late Hellenistic to the early Christian period, including marble sarcophagi, round tumuli, and characteristic tomb structures, reminiscent of temples. The necropolis owes its unusual layout to many earthquakes it has suffered over the time--the whole city was reconstructed in typical Roman fashion after the great earthquake during the reign of Emperor Nero in 60 CE. The panoramic views of the entire area from the hilltop are worth a climb. If you want to see a gladiator's tomb, head to the far north end of the cemetery. This was along the way as we visited all the places. It was nice to see to understand how they buried their dead and it was in their village/towns.
