Soumela Monastery
Visit the hidden gem of history and ecclesiastical art at Soumela Monastery, perched on a scenic cliff overlooking the Altindere Valley. Located inside Altindere Valley National Park at 1,200 m (3,900 ft), the Orthodox monastery dates back to the 4th century CE. The complex has been damaged and restored several times throughout its long history, but you can still admire its impressive frescoes, ornamentation, and exceptional architecture. The site is easily reachable from Trabzon via bus or taxi, or join one of the organized tours that take you there from the city. To get to the monastery itself you have to do a bit of hiking, so be sure to have appropriate footwear. PutSoumela Monastery into our Trabzon trip itinerary site and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

An attraction must to see. They charge 75lira for adults above 8. And there is a device for rent in 4 languages to explain everything about the site. This device cost 45 lira each. I personally categorize it under religion Tourism for whoever is interested in this kind of places. The place has 350mtrs of steps so prepare your self for a good walk.

The place is absolutely worth the time and effort. Be aware you will asked in first stop to pay for entrance the cave don’t pay “ only pay for the normal entry. Then once you arrive up if you want pay for the monastery . Also, park the car “ pay parking charges” Then you go by bus “ the road is bumpy “. Better bring your own food and empty water bottles to refill from there. Overall is worth the tired
