The clean, crisp interior of Ulster Museum is contained within an elegant building close to Belfast’s city center. Highlights of the extensive collection here include relics from the Spanish Armada, nearly three dozen Sir John Lavery paintings that the famed Irish portraitist donated himself, and works from maritime painter Kenneth Shoesmith. You'll also find archaeological items dating to the Stone Age, militaria, and items from world cultures across the globe such as samurai armor and war canoes from the Solomon Islands. Check out the exhibits telling the natural history of the island of Ireland through taxidermied mammals, wildlife, and 100,000 preserved plants and fungi including mosses, ferns, and lichens. • I think it's the best museum I've ever visited. It's very immersive and you can go on and on without getting bored. Time quickly flies by and you've not done it any justice.

  • On arrival the building is a combination on Regency and brutalist modern architecture. The entrance is vast and white, you think, there can’t be much here. But what a surprise, from the art...

  • A museum that covers the history of Ireland in many different aspects. Social and political history, culture and human development. The nature and geology of Ireland. Interesting and interactive. Fascinating relics from various historical period. Takes at least 3 to 4 hours. Nice cafe, bathrooms. No parking so we parked on the streets. Be careful as there are many permit only streets and limited time spaces that you need to pay for at the meters. Lots of parking attendants about! We walked through the Botanical Gardens which are a lovely peaceful space with amazing indoor conservatories. Recommended
  • Very good museum site in the Britannia park. Lots of information. The cafe is big as well. Staff are lovely. However, the one way system for history route was walking backwards instead of follow the time line. I have spent 3 hours there only managed half of history part. No time to look at the nature and people part at all. If you are interested in history, make sure you give plenty of time.
