Must see · Specialty Museum · Museum
Chronicling the historical lifestyle, culture, and architecture of the Welsh people, St Fagans National Museum of History consists of more than 40 recreated buildings taken from various locations in Wales. Located on the grounds of an Elizabethan manor house, this open-air museum welcomed its first visitors in 1948. The site, modeled after an outdoor museum situated in Stockholm, includes a Unitarian chapel, village schoolhouse, tollbooth, pigsty, and tannery. Holding permanent displays of traditional crafts, the museum also features a working blacksmith’s forge, pottery shop, mill, and clog maker’s shop. Drop by the site’s small farm, which concentrates on preserving native breeds of livestock, to peruse the fresh produce available for sale. • There's so much to see, you can't do it in one visit. Much of the museum consists of a variety of buildings relocated from all across Wales. Cottages, shops, churches, farm buildings, chapels and workshops all feature, scattered through a rural site which is often used for a variety of seasonal special events. There are also exhibitions and displays of Welsh crafts and industries. The museum itself is free to enter; although the car-park has a charge (so if you can get there on public transport so-much-the-better)
  • You can't go to Cardiff/Wales without visiting this wonderful place, it is free, and the area is big, so go early to be able to appreciate it all. It's got houses and buildings from different periods of the history all in the same place, it is like you travel back in time, inside the houses there are still objects from those periods that show you how the lifestyles were like in different time periods. Don't worry about food or drink coz there are restaurants and coffee shops, buy a map at the reception so you can take advantage of your time there.
