Create an itinerary including Coventry Cathedral
Coventry Cathedral juxtaposes the ruins of its medieval church with a modern cathedral. The Nazi Luftwaffe mostly destroyed the 14th-century Gothic church during World War II, but the local community decided to leave what remained in place while building a new cathedral alongside it. In the sanctuary of the open-air cathedral ruins, view the replica of the charred beams that fell from the roof and landed in the shape of a cross during the bombing. In the new cathedral, admire stained-glass windows and the large tapestry of Christ. Climb the cathedral's tower, which is the third tallest in Britain, for views over Coventry and its surroundings, and visit the Blitz experience museum to view reconstructions of five rooms from the medieval cathedral as they appeared before the bombing. The new cathedral offers regular religious services, which you can attend free of charge. • Coventry has two cathedrals, the old and the new, the old bombed was replaced with a neighbouring building. These are a triumph of peace over adversity. Worth climbing the tower to see the view.

  • simply the best cultural events, v2.0 given the original cathedral lies in ruins directly next door. a progressive church that offers amazing and well thought out architecture. regardless of your views on the subject, a worthy spot to see in Coventry
  • Excellent location to see Tangerine Dream. The acoustics, light show and visual effects were superb. The Cathedral has such a wonderful setting and atmospheric feel. This made for a truly special evening.
