Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King Liverpool
Seat of the Archbishop of Liverpool, Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King Liverpool is also known as "Paddy's Wigwam" or the "Mersey Funnel." The construction of the modern building took from 1962 to 1967. Visit the bright nave and cathedral for a service or simply pop in to admire Frederick Gibberd's design. Include the crypt under the cathedral in your tour; a different designer prior to World War II constructed it earlier. This sheltered granite hideaway hosts the Liverpool Beer Festival every year, which attracts visitors from the around the world. Our Liverpool trip planner makes visiting Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King Liverpool and other Liverpool attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

Great 2 night break. The upgraded privilege room with its panoramic views of the Mersey and Liver building were great. Super king bed was very comfortable. Staff great. Breakfast was good but could be a bit warmer.

One of the most stunning and iconic cathedral buildings in the world. I'm not religious, but I can see how a building like this can be incredibly powerful for a lot of people. Really recommend a visit, and definitely take the time to go to the crypt - a huge brick underground space that was originally going to be part of the second largest cathedral ever built, before the second world war put paid to that.
