Churchill War Rooms, London

#2 of 3,404 in Historic Sites in England
Military Museum · History Museum
At Churchill War Rooms, see how Winston Churchill and his inner circle directed the British war effort from this bunker complex. In the Cabinet War Rooms, which served as Churchill's living quarters, look for the chair--with scratch marks on its arms--in which Sir Winston sat while strategizing with his closest advisers. The books, color-coded telephones, and documents on desks in the Map Room remain just as they were when the bunker emptied on August 16, 1945. Moving on to the Churchill Room, see where Churchill slept while in the bunker. In the Churchill Museum, learn all about the life of the leader who guided Britain through one of the most trying periods of its history. The site does not have a cloakroom, so expect to carry or wear whatever you bring with you. • A real sense of history and how difficult and basic life was 80 years ago and how brave people were.  more »
  • A really interesting and informative attraction, spent over two hours here, I would recommend using the free audio guide as it tells you so much  more »
  • I was here two years ago and is the most impressive war bunkers where Churchill and his government spent their most harrowing days during World War II. This place is in the heart of London power. It is really interesting to visit these War Rooms, they are as they were at the time they were used, very well preserved. It has a very complete guide that is included in the ticket and that is in several languages. My favourite part is that at the end of the visit there is a shop where you will find super original souvenirs. They should open again this interesting place!
  • I'm giving it a four because it seemed like it was a great place to see. I however, did not see it because the line was two hours long. This may be attributed to it being the anniversary of D-Day and a rainy day at that. What I learned was to purchase tickets online - which you cannot do the day of. So buy them in advance. Check the weather, plan your trip. It is located within walking of many other London landmarks and attractions. So you have options. And it's London so you should have an umbrella.
