The Greater Manchester Police Museum is a former police station converted into a museum and archives detailing the history of policing in Greater Manchester, England. It was home to Manchester City Police and then its successors Manchester and Salford Police and Greater Manchester Police from 1879 until 1979.
Upon its conversion to a museum in 1981 the interior was redesigned to reflect its past and now serves as a reminder of Victorian policing. The building was Grade II listed in 1994 as Former Newton Street Police Station.

  • I was only in Manchester for a day and half, but honestly I thought this was probably one of the more interesting places to check out. Great story telling and interesting historic artifacts, like counterfeit money, uniforms and weapons from historic crimes. Check out the graffiti filled alley ways nearby for a great contrast and some great photo ops.
  • While it is very small, there is a lot of interesting things inside such as the police uniforms of the past, the different handcuffs they used and the weapons they used. Furthermore, they also have old police cells at the back of the building and information on how prisoners were treated. The gift shop was, unlike most museums, quite inexpensive, but a rubber ducky did cost £5. Overall, a nice experience...
