Beautiful - the ancient building work is quite something. Just more than a few thrown stones away from the train station. Although I did not take a guided tour ( will do this the next time ). I... more »

Absolutely majestic, inside and out. The tour was much better than that of other historic locations. The York Minster has more than 50% of all the Medieval stained glass in England. Because of York's location, the historic glass was not destroyed as it was throughout England. Thus, the interior of the Minster was breathtaking. The church bells are beautiful as well and on some nights, they fill the town with their melodic chimes. It is truly the spiritual heart of York.

Visited on a wet and windy morning during Storm Dennis. Perfect place to seek refuge!! First impression was "wow!" Spoke to a very nice young lady (glasses)on the till. She made us feel immediately welcome. She told us there was a free tour starting soon and if we ever wanted to return to the Minster that our tickets were valid for a year. The tour was really interesting. Unfortunately can't remember her name but she said her daughter was in the choir there. Went into the crypt which was a fascinating time capsule of the place. Then went to the shop. Things were a bit pricey but it was nice to look. You cannot visit York without a trip to York Minster!!
