The huge Episcopal cathedral, Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine is still unfinished. The cathedral, begun in 1892 and first fully opened in 1941, provides guided and self-guided tours with opportunities to learn about its history, architecture, and spiritual offerings. Enter the cathedral through the great bronze doors, which were cast by Barbedienne (who also cast the Statue of Liberty). The doors, each 5.5 m (18 ft) high, are covered in 60 bas-relief scenes from the Bible. View the west facade's great rose window, which spans a diameter of 12.2 m (40 ft) and holds more than 10,000 glass pieces. The cathedral does not have a cloakroom, so you must wear or carry anything you bring with you. Check online for a worship service schedule. A beautiful building! Plan on taking some time when visiting. Take in all the detail of the artwork. Free to come in and worship but they will hit you up for a $10 "donation" to walk around and explore. It is money well spent as I cannot imagine what it must cost to maintain this beautiful structure. There is a maze of vestibule, painted ceilings, history lessons, inlaid flooring, beautiful stained glass windows as well as sculptures inside and out. You could spend hours exploring.

World's largest cathedral which is truly something to see. A sacred space and architectural wonder. We took a behind the scenes tour (be sure to schedule prior to your visit as they aren't done on a regular basis) which was fascinating. Took winding stone stairs to different levels of the structure. Able to see the stained glass and structural details up close. No charge to enter but around $20 for the behind the scenes tour.
