Known for its classic Art Deco architecture, Chrysler Building is one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. Located on Manhattan's east side, the 319 m (1046 ft) skyscraper, built in 1930, used to be the world's tallest building until the construction of the Empire State Building. Because it was originally intended to be the Chrysler Corporation's headquarters, the building has replicas of 1929 Chrysler radiator caps as the corner ornamentation on the 31st floor. Although much of the building is leased to businesses and unavailable to visitors, take a moment to admire the building's exterior and visit the lobby to get a closer look at the Art Deco details and the renowned ceiling mural by Edward Trumbull. • I lived in Tudor City for several years, and woke each morning with a view of this most stunning example of Art Deco architecture in the world. One of its less talked about attributes is the magnificent stainless steel spire acts as a lightning rod. As such, when a summer thunderstorm passed, not only did it alleviate the oppressive humidity of NYC in July, I was treated to a spectacular light show with arcs hitting the spire -- the force of which the Chrysler Building kindly sent to ground. A real beauty, of a kind not made anymore.
  • Not worth visiting, you can’t get inside and there is no good way of taking pictures of the building when close. I would recommend to find a more far away spot with good view for pictures. Architecture is amazing though, unfortunately you can check only the lower part of the building.
