Built in 1855, Old Point Loma Lighthouse once helped boats safely navigate San Diego Bay, but now serves as a maritime museum and a lookout point with expansive views of the Pacific Ocean. The museum details its past watch duties, as well as what life was like for the operator and the families who lived there. You can even meet "Captain Israel," the famous character who worked as lighthouse keeper for 21 years. Stroll the grounds, admire the view, or climb down to the shore below and try your hand at tide pooling. There are many great photo opportunities, so don’t forget your camera. The area is frequented by patches of heavy fog, so check the weather before visiting. Old Point Loma Lighthouse reviews
You can't go to Cabrillo without visiting the Lighthouse. The lens is on display inside and is so cool to see. It's amazing how they were basically off the grid living back then.

I used to live in San Diego for years. Now I'm visiting and checking out all the places I new about and never seen. I missed out big time. Point Loma is so beautiful. And the light house was amazing to see. The history the vibes. So worth it. Plus perfect weather for hiking.
I am a lighthouse fan girl, and this lighthouse is a gem! Love the setting (it’s Point Loma after all!) There is a building with the history of this lighthouse and the actual lighthouse you can go inside and the have furniture at up in the rooms. The only thing that would make it better is if you could actually go out to the top of the lighthouse for the view. You can go up the stairs but not out side.
