National Gallery of Art, Washington DC

4.8
Renowned as one of the world's greatest museums, National Gallery of Art holds a collection of paintings, prints, drawings, medals, photographs, sculptures, and decorative arts from the Middle Ages to the present. The museum's campus includes the original neoclassical west building designed by architect John Russell Pope, the modern east building designed by I.M. Pei, and a sprawling sculpture garden. Don't miss the two major highlights of the museum's collection: the only painting by Leonardo da Vinci in the Americas and the largest mobile ever created by American sculptor Alexander Calder. For the sake of expediency, consider exploring the staggering collection of over 100,000 artworks on a guided tour of the galleries. • We decided to take a day and do the museums and sites in the area and found the diversity of art to be incredible. While some of the exhibits may lack significance to some, there is certainly something for everyone that will touch your heart or cause you to pause. highly recommend taking the time and soaking up the culture.
  • Spent about 4 hours here, touring both buildings. Kind staff and well taken care of facilities. Restrooms were very clean and gift shops had many options and good prices. There was so much to see that even spending 4 hours here there was a lot we didn't get to see.
